Inspired by resilient people who become a source of strength for others.

Ed Majkowski is an artist who uses oil paint in an unconventional way to explore how resilient people become a source of strength for others. Taking inspiration from the rugged New England landscape, he presents a reality that juxtaposes what should be the soothing effect of nature with its unequivocal brutality. While equating this to the strain of a quickly changing social outlook in which we are too overwhelmed to be present, Ed’s paintings are a catalyst for those who have worked through the noise and achieved focus in their lives to help others do the same.

His fascination with the tradition and chemistry of oil painting goes back to his early days of artistic training and continues to surface in his work. He demonstrated his dedication to classical portrait painting during his early years at the Art Academy of Hillsborough in New Jersey, and later at Istituto Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy. Upon returning to the USA, Ed was exposed to other forms of expression such as musical/performance art, video, and social practice art. Once a hardcore formalist, he pursued an MFA at Queens College and delved into a period of experimentation. While exploring the palpable tensions brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic, he developed his current painting technique and continues to pursue it through new perspectives.

Ed works out of his studio on the Mousam River in Kennebunk, Maine.
